With pumping wings
It’s follow the leader
One, two, then three redtails ascend
Into the invisibility of a thermal
We suppose they are family
Taking to the sky
Right next to our residence
A townhouse above Monterey Bay
The cliff that falls immediately
150 feet down to sandy beach below
Stands like a promontory should
Allowing onshore seabreezes to waft-up
Creating any number of anomalies
In this case for us, the lucky dogs
Who get to witness beginnings
The upward current of warming air
Hawks like these... love to master
As nature gifts a spiraling ride
Soaring toward loftier places
